Vision Expo East & 2013 Eyewear Trends: What’s Old is New

By Eola Eyes, Doctors of Optometry

New York City never disappoints as a glamorous shopping destination and this spring’s Vision Expo East in NYC was no exception. Our Eola Eyes optometrist, Dr. Nicole Beedle, and our optician and optical manager, Jay, headed north to take in the energy of one of their all-time favorite cities and scope out the best eyewear to bring home to our own optical boutique.

Vision Expo East features renowned designers showcasing their hot-off-the-runway collections in one sleek, sophisticated, fashion forward shopping experience. Our dynamic duo of Dr. B and Jay ran their own version of the New York City Marathon, meeting with over 15 different frame companies in two days. The new collections from Matsuda and Zero G wowed us all and these are the latest new brands we selected to carry. Matsuda frames are handcrafted in artisan workshops using only the finest material. This company has a 40 year history of great design and we are excited to now offer these fabulous frames in our office. Zero G refers to "zero gravity" or "weightlessness." This exclusive collection focuses on classic, modern, and timeless shapes in rich colors and unique patterns. All Zero G frames are hypoallergenic, 40% lighter than stainless-steel, and cut from a single sheet of surgical-grade titanium.

In addition to these amazing new lines, Dr. Beedle and Jay selected frames from our other favorite collections, including Lafont, Robert Marc, Tom Davies, LA Eyeworks, Bevel, Gold and Wood, Fred, 2.5, Kawasaki, Costa Del Mar, and Paul Smith.

As for eyewear trends and new styles for 2013, Jay sums it up with “what’s old is new.” As in many areas of the fashion industry, we are seeing styles of decades past being recycled with a modern twist. Metal frames are making a comeback as are round shapes. Stop in to see the latest frame styles! Jay and Melanie can help you select the perfect frame for you!
